Made By Mary - Berry Dream Food Photography Props

Today we are going to look at a pic that features a number of photography props by a super talented food blogger in Sweden. Made By Mary is a Swedish site, although it does seem that she has some English subtitles which is neat!

So first off, this recipe looks totally yummy and seems to be vegetarian which works well for me. Additionally there are loads of stunning pictures of this recipe and they are all beautifully styled. Mary has a great eye for composition that is apparent throughout her site!

THE PHOTOGRAPHY PROPS REVIEW

Post Title: Creamy Chai Pudding With Coconut, Banana and Raspberries

Soft Cloth Napkin – The bottom left of this image is framed with what looks like a soft cloth napkin in a chambray fabric. This allows Mary to blur the edge of the front without some weird kind of transition off the front of the photo.

Cutting Board – I love how thin and texture-y this cutting board is. It is the perfect way to showcase two of the four small glass containers of the chai pudding.

White Bowl – It is funny how often a plain white bowl can be a really neat offset to loads of color or even frame a pop of color like this one does with the raspberries. While we can see them clearly on cutting board and background, in the white bowl is where they really pop of the pic with a burst of that deep red color.

Canning Jars – Oh the little canning jar and how it can elevate any food, but here the clear glass jar allows Mary to show off all the yummy layers of her pudding. The contrast between the texture of the chia seeds in the pudding and the raspberry jam are striking as are the color changes between the black and tan neutral and bursting with red. Note: Taking a little better look, it might be an olive or pickle jar behind the front one… how awesome that these different jar heights all meld into something truly spectacular!

Multiple Instances – Last but not least, let’s take a peek at the way that Mary is using multiple instances of the same item. The front jar is the star of the show, but by using 4 of the same item, your eye is drawn back through the picture to the ones sitting behind, giving it depth and dimension. If the photo only had just the front ones and the bowl, it would still be cute, but definitely not as cute as it is now.

WRAPUP

Overall this is a really nice picture with a bunch of fun photography props to keep the eye busy. Since Mary is a vegetarian blogger, I am sure that her readership will immediately want to try this recipe with all the berries, bananas and nut goodness.

The whole post uses 4 pictures (two horizontal and two vertical) and Mary uses her props in each of those shots.

Having just spend a half hour or so looking at Mary’s awesome pudding, I think I am off to make some for myself now!
