We are always on the lookout for amazing and affordable photography props and few tickle our fancy more than striped straws! These little gems can add a touch of whimsy to a picture and the range of colors that they are in is truly astounding.
These may be my all time favorite food photo prop because of how they can add a focal point or a pop of color at such a great price point.

This picture is super fun and cute. The flags on the straw come from Alice In Wonderland (Drink Me) and you can tell that this is probably going to be an amazing party. I love how they used the blue colander on a blue doily and paired the purple striped straws with the cute purple sugar bowl. Compositionally this is super eye catching.

I am not always excited about monochrome images but dang this pretty. I love all of the layers of white including the tiny white tray on the painted white table. That said, if there was only white there would not be any contrast in this shot and contrast is what makes our eyes “catch” on something. These red striped straws are brilliant for creating a pop of color!

Oh my gosh I love this blue on blue on blue pic! There are so many fun things going on that we could copy easily. First off, the blue straws of course, but adding the blue spotted bag underneath is such a fun touch. Then to put the final touch they used two white bowls that mimics the layering of the ice cream. What super neat product styling!

Who wouldn’t want to go to this party? This photo is relatively monochromatic, using just beige, black and white. But, the definitiveness of the black pops off all the other neutrals around it which come from the drinks, wood serving trays and the background. This is the second picture that I noticed which had stripes in the straw and then an added color pop in the same color combination like there is in the tablecloth.

I really think that the combination of gold straws, the gold tray details, and even the gold sugar around the rims of these glasses elevate what are functionally humble plastic cups. They really committed to the gold and cream color combination and it paid off big time!
