I was cruising Pinterest one day and saw the neatest idea, use those old chipped up ceramic houses and upcycle them to make spooky Halloween Houses!
Because we just moved to a big new house, I needed to have A LOT of Halloween decorations and thought that this would be a fun idea to try. I roped my big daughter in to this project for help!
First I headed out to the local thrift shop and found these amazing ceramic houses sitting on the shelf, just calling my name. They were in good shape with just a few chips here and there.
The church was super neat with “stained glass” windows. We taped those off so that when we painted them, light would still shine through them. On the shopkeepers house we only taped off the clock and left the rest to be painted.
We used black spray paint to cover everything. We then pealed off the tape that was covering the window and the clock and that step was okay… they were neat looking but missing something.
Using Gilders Paste Wax in gold to highlight all the details was the final step and made the houses pop!
I decorated our family room with all kinds of skulls, purple lights and black garlands and put some of the lights inside the houses so that they would glow with a creepy light.
Gotta say, these spooky upcycled Halloween Houses are one of my family’s favorite projects that I have ever done!
PS – Now I am on the hunt for more ceramic houses to make into Christmas themed houses! More pictures to follow!
