They Used One Like Mine – HGTV Ad | Vintage Photography Props In Action

I scour magazines for cool things that are “hot” and which I can search for to sell on Etsy or Ebay. This is an HGTV ad from one of my design magazines that features Sherwin Williams paint, showing all the new fun color palettes and how they could be used to decorate your home… but the cool thing is that they used a pair of scissors like I have listed on Ebay!

As an Etsy  or Ebay vintage seller I have to say that sometimes I think, “why did I get that”? That crossed my mind when I got this scissors and letter opener set home. It is in a little bit rougher condition than I like to sell but it had that great old vintage look that you can’t get from brand new scissors.

When I saw this ad I thought, those look like my scissors! I did a quick check on Google to see if any big box retailers have this style of mid century modern brass scissors currently for sale and they do not.

While they are great for “throwback” people like me who want a cool kitschy look, the average guy or gal will probably go to Staples and get a pair of plastic scissors from China.

But as an Ebay and Etsy seller, I need to remember that the things that I find are worthwhile, that people do use them in cool ways that we can never imagine when we pick them up at a yard sale or an estate sale.

For me one of the big benefits of selling vintage is that I get to “save” things from getting thrown away in a landfill. Social proof like this ad warms my heart to know that other people use things like this in their creative ads!
