Dark Photography and Metal Styling Photo Props Review

I LOVE the way that the metal food photo props in this piece help accentuate the pears and yummy brownie.

Today’s review is from a photographer from the Klitzekleines Blog which Google translate tells me is the “Tiny Blog” in English. This is a German speaking site and I find that I really like how this German styling fits with a design aesthetic that I like, using lots of metal and a darker feeling in photos!

This is a recipe for Pear Vanilla Brownie and appears to have been written near the first of the year. The translation of the site to English is charming and a little confusing, but it appears Dani, the author, decided on the spur of the moment to make this cake and it came out amazing!

Metal Styling Food Photo Props

Baking Pan – Let’s start at the bottom with the metal baking pan. It seems like this is the cookware that the photographer used to make the cake and she simply placed it on another metal plate to cool. I love how “lived in” and used this cookware is. You can tell this is not just a fluffy prop but something that she works with in making her food.

Serving Utensils – Okay, I admit it, I am a sucker for really great serving utensils in a shot. The cake server is obviously a little worn, slightly tarnished, but it really helps balance that little area which would be blank if there was nothing there.

Extra Tin – This extra tin propped in the back leads the eye up through the photograph and make for great movement in the picture. Repeating elements are cool for consistency and I like know it mimics the actual baking pan.

Wooden Background – Last but not least is the wooden background. All of these rustic pieces (and even the pears with their blemishes) would look silly had they been photographed on a crisp white marble countertop or the like. This kind of setup, evoking old world charm, requires that the background have a subtle texture that doesn’t scream “new fangled” and “shiney bright”.
