A Metal Dream Food Photography Prop Scene

Today’s photo just makes my heart happy. I don’t know why, but I have always been obsessed with metal cookware. Much of my storage in my craft room slash office is old fashioned and metal, including a three tier galvanized lazy susan and scads of those little ruffly metal bake cups.

But I digress, let’s talk about all the amazing metal food photography prop bits in this photo!

The Food Photography Prop Review

To get started, let’s look at what this  this Peach Meringue Cake (El Postre Chaja) is sitting on. The rustic mood starts right from the “ground” up with a old textured table. It looks really weathered and I love that the dark, deep color grounds the image.

The next layer of texture is a piece of burlap where the meringue points are sitting. What great styling as it is just pulling back from the edge of the right side and then a little bumpy on the left side so that the meringues are not all just sitting there flat. Additionally, this allows for some shadows and lets those two little ones at the front catch the light.

Wah, wah… these ruffly cake plates are my FAVORITE. So neat for holding stuff, this one is set on top of a galvanized vase to create a cake plate. So cute and creative. Plus the ruffled edge exactly matches the sweep of the bottom layer of the cake, giving it contrast and letting the food stand out.

Last but not least are the metal bits in the background. Overall this is just an amazing picture with layer upon layer of metal styling and texture.

Not quite a “dark photo”, this picture really shows how you can use your food photo props to make the food the star of the show. Because the styling is monochromatic in shades of blue, gray and brown, the cream and gold of the cake pops off of the page!
